If I were to total up the lifetime value of a skier to the snow sports industry, it could be a pretty hefty figure. Think of the years of tickets or passes, gear, rentals, food and beverage, lockers, parking, lodging, lessons and more that you put into skiing over the years. On second hand, maybe you don't want to think about it!

If you've kept up your heath and you are skiing in your later years, then heck yeah, you deserve some perks! A few days ago I was out skiing in a snowstorm at a resort where they have just brought back free skiing for seniors. And I thought, yes - great move. Let's reward our skiers and riders who've put in miles over the years. It used to be common for ski areas to do that, but not many offer those perks today. Helmets off to any ski areas who reward senior skiers today.

This great powder day I spent on the hill gave me the idea for Senior Saver Alerts. Gold Skis is going to tell you ways you can save on skiing, ski stuff and wellness to help keep you on the hill for less. We'll keep bringing you these kinds of savings for anyone let's say 50 and up. It doesn't have to be free, though we certainly need to share the free stuff. So we're starting big - with free lift tickets and season passes. I've rounded up a bunch around the US from the Pacific Northwest to the Rocky Mountains to the Northeast and Atlantic States. I found one in Europe too. In Canada I haven't found anything for free skiing for seniors yet, but I'll keep looking.

There are also plenty of discounted rates for seniors where you don't have to reach 70 80 or even 90 years old to ski for free. We will share more of those those in future Senior Savers alerts. How do You Get to Ski Free as a Senior?

1) Check the list below to find a place you'd like to ski.

2) Call or check the website of the ski area you want to visit. Offers can change and the way to get the deal varies by resort. We've linked the names of the ski areas below so all you need to do is click on their name to get to their website. Some require buying online or making a reservation before you arrive, others do not.

3) Show up with ID. Quite a few deals mentioned they will verify your pass against your ID.

4) Enjoy all the turns you can make.
