Today's Alert - Over 40 places with free skiing for seniors
Last updated: October, 2026. Verified for the 2026-2027 season on each ski area's website.
If I were to total up the lifetime value of a skier to the snow sports industry, it could be a pretty hefty figure. Think of the years of tickets or passes, gear, rentals, food and beverage, lockers, parking, lodging, lessons and more that you put into skiing over the years. On second hand, maybe you don't want to think about it!
If you've kept up your heath and you are skiing in your later years, then heck yeah, you deserve some perks! A few days ago I was out skiing in a snowstorm at a resort where they have just brought back free skiing for seniors. And I thought, yes - great move. Let's reward our skiers and riders who've put in miles over the years. It used to be common for ski areas to do that, but not many offer those perks today. Helmets off to any ski areas who reward senior skiers today.
This great powder day I spent on the hill gave me the idea for Senior Saver Alerts. Gold Skis is going to tell you ways you can save on skiing, ski stuff and wellness to help keep you on the hill for less. We'll keep bringing you these kinds of savings for anyone let's say 50 and up. It doesn't have to be free, though we certainly need to share the free stuff. So we're starting big - with free lift tickets and season passes. I've rounded up a bunch around the US from the Pacific Northwest to the Rocky Mountains to the Northeast and Atlantic States. I found one in Europe too. In Canada I haven't found anything for free skiing for seniors yet, but I'll keep looking.
There are also plenty of discounted rates for seniors where you don't have to reach 70, 80 or even 90 years old to ski for free. We will share more of those those in future Senior Savers alerts. If you know of free skiing or great discounts for skiers over the age of 50, drop a note in the comments, please.
For those of you who qualify for the deals below, enjoy the perks!

Honorable Mentions: Almost Free
There are a lot of ski areas where skiing is practically free after a certain age. Just pay the processing fee for the Pass.
Boyne Mountain, Michigan, for instance charges just $1 for a lift ticket if you are over 80. In a time when many ski areas charge an added $5 for an RFID card to access the lifts, $1 is practically free. The challenge in determining "almost free" is where do we draw the line? Is $10 to a process a season pass still free? What about $30, $50 or $80? Here are some of the lowest costs we found for our honorable mention list.
US
Alaska - Moose Mountain, $10, 80 or older
California - Bear Mountain $29 for 80+
Bear Valley $10 for 75+
China Peak $10, age 75+
Mountain High, $10 for 75+
Colorado - Monarch, $25 Season pass for age 60+
Michigan - Boyne Mountain $1 for a lift ticket, age 80+
New Hampshire - Waterville Valley, $35 if you are 80 or older
West Virginia - Wintergreen, $29 for 75+
Europe
Grand Valira, Androra, €41 for 75+
Canada
Panorama, British Columbia, $35 USD/$49 CAD for 80+
Castle Mountain, Alberta, $29 for $75+
